Shasta came to the Refuge at a year of age. She was kept in a
small cage with concrete flooring approximately 4'x 4' x 4' her feet
had never touched grass. She could only see it through her chain
link fence. Her ancestors came from Asia but Shasta was born in
captivity. Shasta lived several places. She came from Florida to
Texas and then to the Refuge. She was brought to us by her owners
after the USDA would not issue a license to them.
She
was only fed chicken and was not use to a proper diet. She was so
excited when she was released into a 100'x70' habitat complete with
grass, trees, shrubbery and water. Sadly to say, Shasta will always
be lame and arthritic from her past declawing and having to live on
concrete before she came to us.
