Khan, a jaguar, was four
years old when he was confiscated by state wildlife agencies in
Texas. He had been abandoned for nearly two weeks without food or
water and weighed only 58 pounds!
That is
less than your average collie, like Lassie.
His growth and
development had been severely stunted by a cruel and unscrupulous
owner who had kept him in a 3' X 4' X 2½' high cage.
Due to the early abuse
and confinement, Khan is small, weighing approximately 102 pounds
(he should weigh up to 300); he is arthritic and will forever carry
a permanent hump on his back. When rescuers found Khan, he could
only sit hunched over and the waste in the bottom of his cage was
18" deep. Khan had lost all his hair and had bloody, running sores
all over his body.
This beautiful, innocent
creature had never known human contact without abuse, pain and fear.
After many years of medical care, love, attention and personal
contact, the pain that was once seen in Khan’s eyes is gone.
Now he has a large compound with grass and trees and a two-story
home where he feels safe, secure and loved. You can make a
difference in this animals’ life by making a generous tax deductible
